On Thursday 10 July, 13 teams from 11 different primary schools competed in the WOKSSA Rounders Festival run by the Tunbridge Wells School Sports Partnership at Homewood School, Tenterden. Despite the waterlogged field, the tournament was completed on schedule on a multi surface area and there were some extraordinary matches throughout. The festival was officiated by PLT’s from the primary schools.

Round 1 saw each school put into one of four groups. All schools played fixtures against other teams in their group and once games were completed, schools were ranked and placed into seeded groups for the 2nd Round.
Headcorn, Cranbrook B, Goudhurst & Kilndown and Cranbrook A all won their 1st Round groups meaning they went into the semi-finals of the tournament. The first game saw Headcorn and Cranbrook B battle it out in a thrilling match, with Headcorn victors at 105-88. The second semi-final was between Goudhurst & Kilndown and Cranbrook A and again was a great match to watch with Cranbrook A just winning by a close score of 102-97.

The final, between Headcorn and Cranbrook A was well fought and both teams put in lots of effort and spurred their team mates on. Both teams were very sporting towards each other and ‘three cheers’ and handshakes where exchanged after the game. Congratulations to Cranbrook A who won the game 94-74 to become the 2008 WOKSSA Rounders Champions.

The Fair Play award was presented to Sissinghurst Primary School who proved that great teamwork, encouraging others and playing in the spirit of the game is all part of having fun and enjoying a great afternoon of Rounders.
Thanks must go to Homewood school who hosted the event, PLT’s from the primary schools that took part and TWSSP Staff for organizing and running the festival.
