The 2007 WOKSSA Cross Country Challenge was hosted by Homewood School & Sixth Form Centre on Tuesday 4 December. Over 180 runners took part, more than double the number last year.

Students from Benenden, Colliers Green, Sandhurst, Wittersham, Woodchurch, Headcorn, Frittenden, Goudhurst and Hawkhurst primary schools competed in two different mixed races; one for Year 3/4 and one for Year 5/6. Runners were entered in teams of four and the final results of each of the team members were added together to give a team score. The team with the lowest total score was the winning team. There were also individual winner’s medals for the winning boy and girl from each race. With all the recent bad weather we have had, the track was very muddy – but that’s what cross country is all about! Runners started their race on the main school field and then disappeared into the woods beyond. Parts of the course were covered in mud which made running conditions very difficult but following a challenging one mile run, including two stream jumps and a sty, students reappeared and crossed the finishing line. Every runner finished the race, cheered on by a good number of enthusiastic parents and teachers.
