WOKSSA Tag Rugby Festival 2007
Updated: February 29, 2008 6:11 PM

On Thursday May 10, Cranbrook Rugby Club hosted the 2007 WOKSSA Tag Rugby Festival. 24 teams entered in total from 18 different primary schools. Each school was assigned a country to represent for the day and teams were encouraged to be creative in the way they dressed up to try to win the spirit of rugby award!

Cranbrook Rugby Club provided the referees for the afternoon and behind the scenes a number of club members had done a fantastic job in the lead up to the festival to ensure that everything was prepared for the afternoon.

After the initial registration, briefing and team photo shoots, teams were placed into groups of four to play the first round of matches in a mini league format.

Teams played each other in a mini league format again in round two and the teams winning groups 7 and 8 automatically went through to the grand final to compete for the local festival winners’ shield which guaranteed a place at the Kent County Finals in June.

Sandhurst and Colliers Green both won their respective groups to face each other in a re-match of an earlier round’s fixture.

Sandhurst who had played exceptional flowing rugby throughout the festival maintained their excellent form and eventually beat Colliers Green in increasingly wet conditions.

Hawkhurst were awarded the Fair Play trophy and will now take their place at the Kent County Fair Play Finals. Tenterden were awarded the Spirit of Rugby Award for their representation of Tonga. They had even prepared their own version of the Haka to perform before each match which was fantastic to watch.

A huge thank you to Cranbrook Rugby Club, all of the Tunbridge Wells School Sports Partnership staff and sports leaders from Angley School that helped to ensure the afternoon was a great success.
