The WOKSSA Racquets Festival was held at Angley School A Sports College on Thursday 13 October. 20 teams representing 7 local primary schools competed in the event, which aims to provide primary aged pupils with the opportunity to play tennis, squash, table tennis and badminton.

Teams from Staplehurst, Lamberhurst, Colliers Green, Wittersham, Goudhurst & Kilndown and John Mayne primary schools, and Tenterden Junior School competed in individual and team activities during the workshops designed to develop skills in each of the four sports.

Teams moved around the four workshops learning new skills, developing tactics and enjoying fun games and activities. Each session was run by qualified coaches from local community clubs and members of staff from the Tunbridge Wells School Sports Partnership.

Congratulations to all those who took part – the level of skill and commitment on display was fantastic!

Special thanks go to Mrs Andrews (PLT, Rolvenden Primary School) who coached the badminton workshops, Mr Burge and Mr Weaver (PE Dept, Angley School A Sports College) who delivered the tennis activities, Mr Allen and Mr Luck (SSCo’s, TWSSP) and Miss Heath (PE & Sport Coordinator, Angley School A Sports College) who ran the squash sessions, and Mr Gray (National Development Manager, English Table Tennis Association Ltd) and his son Lewis who led the table tennis workshops. Without these wonderful volunteers such events would never take place.

Our thanks also go to James and Shaun (Community Sports Leaders, Angley School A Sports College), Amy and Hayley (Junior Sports Leaders, Angley School A Sports College) who worked extremely hard to ensure the festival ran smoothly and each of the players enjoyed themselves.
