WOKSSA Hockey Festival

The 2005 WOKSSA Hockey festival was held at Cranbrook School on Thursday 20 October. 13 teams representing 10 local primary schools competed in the event, which aims to provide primary aged pupils with the opportunity to play Hockey at an introductory level of competition.
Teams from Staplehurst, Lamberhurst, Colliers Green, Wittersham, Goudhurst & Kilndown and John Mayne primary schools, and Tenterden Junior School competed in individual and team activities during the workshops designed to develop skills in each of the four sports.
Teams from High Halden, Headcorn, Staplehurst, Lamberhurst, Colliers Green, Wittersham, Egerton, Hawkhurst and John Mayne primary schools, and Tenterden Junior School participated in a short workshop designed to develop basic hockey skills and a warm up led by Cranbrook School JSLA students. The Teams moved into two competitions in which they played a round robin format. TWSSP staff then supervised the tournament as the Cranbrook School students officiated each of the games.
A large bank of spectators witnessed some excellent hockey, with many teams playing for the first time. Individual skills were mixed with some wonderful team spirit to produce a series of highly energetic and entertaining games of hockey.
Special thanks must go to all staff and parents who helped to put teams together and supported the players throughout the afternoon. Also, thanks to Cranbrook School for providing us with a fantastic venue. Finally, we would like to thank the Cranbrook School JSLA students who did a magnificent job or coaching and refereeing at the festival – James Denny, Alice Farrar, Camilla Holmes, Charlie Crocker, Tom McKenzie, Alex Wenman, Ben Palmer, James Addis and Jez Stewart.
Congratulations to Tenterden A and Tenterden B, who finished at the top of their respective divisions at the festival.
