The first ever WOKSSA Dance festival was held at Angley School on Thursday 18 March. The event was part of the ‘Spotlight on Dance’ week organized by The Tunbridge Wells School Sports Partnership and Chris MacDonald (SSCo)

The event was a fantastic success, with 97 pupils from 9 primary schools taking part. The schools involved were Benenden, Colliers Green, Goudhurst, Headcorn, John Mayne, Lamberhurst, Wittersham and Woodchurch.WOKSSA Dance Festival 2006Workshops included ‘Bugsy Malone’, ‘The Lion King’ and ‘The Jungle Book’ (all run by students from Tunbridge Wells Girls Grammar School - TWGGS), ‘Salsa Loco’ led by Lianne Hodgson (dance teacher with Salsa Loco), ‘Street Dance’ delivered by four Angley students (Lizzie Norton, Harriet Neal, Alana Williams and Katie Bilsby – Year 11) and ‘West End Shows’ led by Chloe Treherne (TWSSP). After trying out several different workshops, everybody came together and each group then took it in turns to perform one of the dances they had just learnt.

Thank you to PDM Paul Willmott, SSCo Tim Luck and PESC Jo Heath for their support organizing and running the event. Thank you to Lianne Hodgson and Ruth Abrahams for their excellent work leading the Salsa workshops.

WOKSSA Dance Festival 2006Thank you to our ‘Fab Four’ street dancers who generated such energy in their workshops. Thank you to Chloe Treherne and Sue Deering for their excellent work in the West End Shows workshops which produced such fantastic performances.
