On Wednesday 12th March, the Tunbridge Wells School Sports Partnership organised the annual Basketball Rally. This years TWDPSSA event was hosted by Bennett Memorial in Tunbridge Wells. In total ten teams from 7 schools took part in the competition; they were from St Marks, St Matthews, St Johns, St Augustine’s, Rusthall St Paul’s, Sherwood Park and St James Junior.

The children played some fantastic basketball and there were many great baskets scored. After their entire round one matches, the central scorer announced the finalists and the court was set up for the big show down.
Staff from TWSSP officiated all matches and ensured the tournament ran smoothly from start to finish. Sevenoaks Suns representative Sam Nicholson attended the festival where he was able to talk about his club and the chances of joining the local basketball team.

Final
Children from all teams sat around the edge of the court cheering on the two finalists which were St Johns A vs. St James Jnr. The game was a closely fought battle with both team coming close but after 6 minutes the teams were gridlocked at 0-0. This meant that the tie would be decided by Free Throws. Each team selected five students to take a Free Throw – the winners would be the team with the most baskets after all five throws.
St James Jnr. were up first but failed to convert. St Johns A stepped up confidently for their first throw with a great basket. No baskets were then scored until St James Jnr. fifth thrower who scored to make it even. St Johns A needed to score to win the match – doing so in style!
Congratulations to St Johns A who won the TWDPSSA competition.
