French Open Multi-Skills Academy 2007

From Tuesday May 29 to Thursday May 31, The Tunbridge Wells School Sports Partnership ran a Multi-Skills Academy at Angley School – A Sports College. Created for Gifted and Talented 8 to 12 year olds, multi-skill academies are focused on developing core skills such as movement, co-ordination, agility, body awareness, thinking skills and also involve cross-curricular links.

The course was led by Tunbridge Wells School Sports Partnership staff, with specialist tutors coming in throughout the week to deliver additional sessions. Each primary school from the school sports partnership invited two pupils to attend the course which was themed around the French Open tennis tournament taking place at the time.

Activities included:
- Fundamental movement skills
- Tennis literacy
- Sports injury awareness and health and safety
- Racquet Games; fundamentals required, basic tactics
- History of the French Open
- Healthy eating
- Tennis themed body combat and dance
- Group presentations

At the end of the week, all students were presented with a certificate and a number of individuals were awarded prizes for outstanding work during the course.
