During the spring term years 5 & 6 of Sherwood Park School have been developing their Tag Rugby skills during PPA time. In this time every child has improved their handling of a rugby ball, improved their fitness levels and knowledge of the rules associated with the game.
The level of excitement and commitment to their training was immense and this came to a climax on Monday 26th March, when an inter-class tournament took place. The children arranged the 8 teams with their form tutors that were to compete in the event. Two divisions were formed with the winning team of each, to play in the ultimate final.
Blessed with good weather, the tournament got underway and it was soon apparent that the teams meant business. Tries galore were being scored by both teams in each and every game. The atmosphere was electric. Children, teachers and classroom assistants all rooting for their teams but appreciating the skills of other teams.
There was a fantastic team spirit in all teams and many great individual performances witnessed during the day.
The eventual winners were the (VT1) Bulldogs defeating (VT2) Tigers by 7 tries to 6.
Miss Astle’s Hakas must get a mention for their performance of the All Blacks famous Haka. It was simply priceless.
The Bulldogs may have won the event but everybody associated with the day were winners, judging by the attitude and smiling faces of the pupils.
The event was a tremendous success and the effort of Miss Astle and colleagues must be applauded for their contribution in running the event.
