During Sherwood Park’s Health Week Mr. Luck came in to give a demonstration of Tri Golf and organise relay races for the Infants.
During the course of the morning every Year 5 and Year 6 Class participated in a Tri Golf session. The session included several activities that developed different golfing skills.
The first activity was o the putting green. A series of coloured flags had been arranged at varying distance away from several tees where the children lined up in small groups. The children were given time to practice their putting skills after being shown how to hold the putter correctly. Each child in group had a different coloured ball so that they could see who got closest to the flag for a point. After a few goes they moved to another flag.
After the putting the children moved onto a make shift driving range where hoops were placed at various distances. The idea of this section was to try to hit balls so that they landed in the hoops, this was quite a challenge but it got the children thinking about the accuracy of their drives. The children were so good at striking the ball that Mr Luck had to move the tee back due to balls going into the hedge.
The morning was a great success and the school is now looking to invest in its own Tri Golf set.
In the afternoon the infants participated in a series of relays. Each class from Year 1 and 2 came out for their turn. The course consisted of five hoops for each team which were used in a variety of ways during the afternoon.
To begin with the children simply ran around the hoops. Then they performed a variety of jumps in and out of the hoops using one and two feet. Other activities included placing balls in the hoops and throwing them at a target.
The children worked in teams and participated in plenty of races. By the end of an enjoyable afternoon they all had had a lot of fun and were eagerly looking forward to their drinks of water.
