As part of Dance week, Yr 5/6 worked on some dancing. We included banghra dancing as part of our cross-curricular study on Pakistan and Islam. The pupils were asked to compose their own dance, and chose their own music to work towards. They performed it for the school in our assembly time during our celebration of Pakistan on 23 rd March.
Banghra Dancing
In our Banghra we have been watching a DVD and following the movements. Some of the movement are hard to follow, but some are easier. It’s really fun. We are making our own Banghra using some of the movements learnt.
In PE we are doing Banghra and we are performing for the school as part of Pakistan Day. We are in three groups. I really enjoy the banghra and would rate it 10/10.
Haka
Haka is a thing that New Zealand men do when they play rugby. When they play it they need to slap their legs hard. I like it because it is fun, but it can hurt when you slap hard.
We practiced doing the haka for New Zealand Day – our teacher is from New Zealand. It was great fun – we watched the All Blacks performing it at a rugby match, and then we did it. I think we are quite good.
