Today saw the inaugural meeting of the TWGSB School Sports Council. The council was formed by Mr Downing, the Head of PE, to meet on the first Monday of every month to discuss sports matters at the school.

The council itself consists of all the captains from every sports team within the school as well as Mr Downing, Mr Price and Mr Luck, a School Sport Coordinator.

TWGSB School Sports Council

The council is an open forum and its purpose is to give the students the opportunity to discuss any concerns or issues to do with school sports including OSHL, clubs and coaching opportunities.

Matters raised included:

  • OSHL – hockey, badminton, Judo, cross country and athletics
  • Kit – new kits needed for various teams because so much is missing
  • Community Leaders and Volunteers
  • JSLA and CSLA
  • Junior Football Organisers and Rugby Community Leaders
  • Hockey / Football / Rugby and Golf coaching opportunities
  • Curling at Fenton’s Rink
  • Articles for a new school magazine
  • Certificates of Achievement and Endeavour for students in teams

A lot of interest was expressed by the students to become involved in coaching courses. It was decided that if there was a sufficient number of students wanting to get involved then courses could be run at the school itself.

The council is due to meet next in the New Year.
