Both TWGGS U14 and U16 Netball teams had qualified for the London and South East Regional Finals hosted at Lady Eleanor School in Hampton.

U16’s

There was no hanging around for the U16 team, who were up to play in the first set of matches. TWGGS did well to turnover the ball numerous times throughout their matches however struggled to covert their chances. The opposition were quick to react and capitalise on this. The U16’s did very well all day to keep in contention with the top sides in the region, all the games were really close with TWGGS only loosing by a couple of goals in most games. In their final game TWGGS had a cracking win against Chafford School winning 10-8. The girls should all be very proud to have the opportunity to compete at the regional round and hopefully will build on this experience for next season. Well done to Captain Gemma Bailey, Vice Captain Emma Fraser, Emily Drew, Holly Turner, Nicole Middleton, Hattie Funnel, Daisy Guy, Lucy Gripper, Hattie Grant and Georgia Nokes.

U14’s

The U14 team enjoyed a very successful day, however were slow to settle in their first match against tough opponents Guildford High School. TWGGS looked overwhelmed and struggled to gain composure in the first half and were looking shell shocked at how strong Guildford had started. Strong defensive play from Captain Sarah Durr and Olivia Whittome forced the opponents to start making mistakes, allowing TWGGS to covert some turnovers to get back in the game, however with 7 minutes to a half there just was not enough time to claw back the score line, meaning TWGGS lost their first game 5-8.

A strong positive team talk before going into the next few games got TWGGS focused and energised.  TWGGS built up an impressive lead with Centre Court players Elish Daughtery, Amy Moriarty Maddie Nagel and Alice Pavey taking control in attack to feed the ball into the shooters to beat Notre Dame-Cobham 15-7 and Latymer Upper School 20-2.

On a high from the previous games TWGGS then faced old rivals Tonbridge and the game as always was an exciting and at times very nerve racking. Both teams started strong making quick passing and movement around the court. TWGGS were desperate to win, trying to force the ball into the attacking third. TWGGS eventually managed to turnover a few centre passes and using short sharp passing TWGGS got the ball into the circle to shooters Georgie Stafford and Katie Mesher who converted their chances. and won the game 8-6 to gain another vital 5 points for the score board.

The next 2 games were very tough indeed against Forest and Bancrofts. TWGGS by this time had really started to gel together to play some fantastic netball and started to believe that they were in with a chance of reaching the top 3. TWGGS gained confidence on the court with some fantastic interceptions from Hattie Montgomery, Beth Freeman and Sarah Durr, TWGGS managed to gain a slight lead and hold it to win both games 8-4.

After all the hard work TWGGS had to stay focused to make sure they were in with a chance of becoming runners up from strong hosts Lady Eleanor Holles. After a closely contested first half, LEH managed to turnover the ball early in the second half to gain a slight lead. Despite TWGGS' efforts LEH secured a 7-5 win.

After a long day the girls had a tense wait to see if they had got through as runners up. With 1 point in it, TWGGS had managed to come 2nd and the U14’s will now go onto represent the London & South East Region at the National Finals in March.

The team should be very proud of their achievements qualifying as one of the top16 in the country. Well Done to all players; Captain Sarah Durr, Vice Captain Amy Moriarty, Olivia Whittome, Beth Freeman, Hattie Montgomery, Elish Daughtery, Alice Pavy, Georgie Stafford, Maddie Nagel and Katie Mesher.
