On Wednesday 25th February TWGGS entered the annual U13 County Tournament at Rainham. With a cold and windy start to the day and a couple of players off ill TWGGS were anxious and nervous to start with.

However, TWGGS dominated the first round with wins against Coloham Hall 16-0, Swadelands School 20-0, Farringtons School 12-1, Langley Park 11-3, Homewood School 15-1 and Spures 18-0. TWGGS defence intercepted well, feeding the ball through he centre court players to the shooters who managed to score consistently.

After doing so well in round 1 TWGGS moved into round 2 full of confidence, they played Kent College, Pembury. Although starting off slowly and with many turnovers for both sides the TWGGS shooters; Rose and Lily worked well together extremely well, managing to secure a lead in the game. The defence; Simone Ritson and Harriet Montgomery made crucial interceptions throughout the game. Resulting in TWGGS won 9-2

In the quarter finals TWGGS faced a match against their local rivals TOGGS. TWGGS had a tough start when TOGS scored first, but our team kept their cool to get back into the game and dominate play, in the end TWGGS won 14-3!

TWGGS were feeling confident and happy, going into the Semi-finals against Sevenoaks. TWGGS were starting to get tired, with only 7 players and no subs, despite this they never stopped and looked stronger than ever as the game finished 9-4.

This meant that TWGGS were in the final, nervous although full of anticipation TWGGS went into the final to play Kings College Canterbury.

A strong start from Kings overwhelmed TWGGS and unfortunately the U13’s found themselves 4-1 down, with heads down and feeling very exhausted from the day a strong and inspirational team talk at half time soon gave them the motivation needed and they were ready to go. The whole team worked tirelessly and managed to turnover the ball with exceptional defending from Sophia Wilson and Antonia Murray. The game was 4-4 within the last 30 seconds. TWGGS used up the last of their energy to keep the pressure on and with a vital turnover the ball moved smoothly down the court to Lily Wadsworth who scored the winning goal under pressure.

The whole team should be proud of their achievement, another fantastic performance from the U13’s. Well done to the following girls.

Captain Antonia Murray, Joint Players of the tournament Harriet Montgomery and Rose Hairs, Lily Wadsworth, Simone Ritson, Sophia Wilson, Hattie Gomersall.

A special mention goes to Lydia Slaughter and Georgia Bailey as unfortunately due to illness they could not play, however their commitment to Netball over the year has been outstanding so well done.
