On Tuesday 29 September, the year 5 and 6 pupils at Rolvenden Primary School took part in a whole day’s activity. These activities focused on developing the pupils into affective Young Sports Leaders which would then to allow them to lead sporting activities to younger pupils.

The pupils learned about the 6 leadership qualities a good sports leader must possess; Communication, Cooperation, Enjoyment, Safety, Responsibility and Organisation. As well as learning a variety of games and activities suitable for younger pupils; Stuck in the Mud, The Simpsons, Mountains and Valleys, Here There & Everywhere and they also developed their team work skills through a variety of different team building challenges; Human Knot, Chase the Hoop, All Aboard and Human Caterpillar.
This all built up to the afternoon where the pupils delivered a multi skills session to year 1 & 2 pupils from the school. This enabled them to hone their leadership skills. In small groups they where given activities that they had to teach; Hoop Challenge, Dicey Balance, Throw Mania, Sport Pick Up, Send & Receive and A B C Balance.

The day turned out to be a huge success with all pupils gaining the opportunity to lead some aspect of their activity and all pupils also developed as individuals and as a class as a whole. The day was also helped by the fantastic weather we enjoyed all day. Well done to all in year 5 and 6 at Rolvenden Primary school for passing your Young Sports Leader training
