Primary Dance Machine Competition 2010
Updated: March 22, 2010 12:34 PM

During TWSSP Dance Week 2010 seven Primary Schools in the Homewood Cluster competed in the pilot Inter/Intra Primary Dance Machine Competition. This competition pitted the children from reception through to year 6 against each other in a 2 hour dance competition.

Using the Dance Machine each school separated their children into four teams/houses within each key stage. Using a pre-programmed workout, each session lasted for 55 minutes with Key Stage 1 pupil’s competition at level 1 and Key Stage 2 pupils competing at level 2. The competition worked in a relay format with pupils dancing for around 30 seconds each. Whilst they were waiting for their next go they would use this time to practice and encourage each other.

After the first day of competition Woodchurch Primary School had set an outstanding bench mark for the rest of the week scoring a combined score of 20095, with their pupils showing fantastic school and team spirit all afternoon. However the following afternoon Rolvenden Primary School amassed a huge team score of 22521 moving into the overall lead again showing tremendous school spirit.

It was not until the final afternoon that the winning school emerged, after missing their initial Thursday afternoon slot due to the snow, we managed to fit High Halden Primary School into the Friday afternoon session. High Halden Primary School took this opportunity to show their school spirit and all of their pupils danced their hearts out. After a slow start the Key Stage 1 & Foundation stage pupils started to get the hang of the Dance Machine with the Yellow team scoring the highest KS1 score of 1983, just missing out on the 2000 mark. High Haldens KS1 team where fantastic scoring the highest KS1 score, this was then followed by the KS2 pupils who managed to equal the score set by Rolvenden Primary School with 15 minutes to spare and they went on to score an outstanding total of 26588.

Over 1000 children took part in a fantastic week of dance activity and competition. Congratulations to all who took part in the competition, thank you to all of the teachers and young leaders who supported the activities and congratulations to the winning school High Halden Primary School.

Well done to all

Mr Foot
