Benenden Primary School - Health Week
Updated: March 22, 2010 1:23 PM

Last term Benenden Primary School spent a week focussing on “being healthy”. The children were asked to make recommendations for healthy activities, which they did through their Class Councils. The School Council then met and all the ideas were pooled.

The School Council decided that all children should be encouraged to bring healthy lunches to school and the importance of nutrition was emphasised. Certificates were given out to all who had a healthy lunch box each day for a week.

The School Council devised a wish list of activities that was then organised into a timetable. All the class teachers agreed to devote an extra 15 minutes per day to PE and arranged a variety of sporting activities for those sessions. We co-ordinated competitive after school sporting events for 4 of the 5 days that week and every break time the Young Sports Leaders from Year 6 ran activities for the whole school to take part in. These included Tri-Golf, football, multi-skills, hockey, athletics and aerobics.

The week was extremely successful and children and staff commented on how enjoyable they had found the experience.
